George although born in Toronto, grew up in the countyside just onthe outskirts of Orillia. He had a friendly dispostion and a mannerthat everyone loved. He was very meticulus in his grooming and madesure everything had it's place. As a father Dad, loved all hischildren equally but still had a soft spot for his daughters. I guessthat is because he waited so long to get them. Dad did make it tograde nine at Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institute(ODCVI). He probably would have gone on further if his parents couldhave afforded his education. But like many men of his generation, money was hard to find. He worked many jobs in his young life. Motherand him moved all over Ontario moving with whatever job Dad could get. Thank God there wasn't too many of us in the beginning. Dad and Mommarried at the Calvary Penecostal Church on Colbourne St in Orillia.Ray Corry, Dad's uncle stood up for them and provided the wedding carto chauffer them around in. Some of his interests were country music(the traditional type) Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, KittyWells and Waylon Jennings. He also liked wrestling and westernmovies. He wasn't much of an outdorrsey type but did like gardening, snowmobiling and keeping the yard as clean as a whistle. Swimmingwasn't his forte probably because he never really learned how to swim.Dad was 6ft, slender build with an army cut dark hair. Mother told mehe was born with a shorter leg than the other however it was notnoticeable. At about 28, somewhere around there, Dad contractedA.L.S. a disease that afflicts the motor skills and eventually death. Mother believes this all started when Dad was driving transport inConn. USA. Apparently he swerved off the road from hitting a schoolbus. No one knows for sure but this is where he probably damaged hisspine in the accident. George passed away on Boxing day 1976 while hewas getting his haircut. I suppose he knew mother was coming in andwanted to look his best. All of us went to see him Christmas Day. Heseemed fine but that would be the last we spoke to him. Thefuneralwas at the Doolittle funeral home at the corner of ColdwaterRoad and West St. Family and friends came to pay their condolences. So many people, lots we didn't even know. To sum it up, George wasvery popular with his family often taking in one of his brothers whenthey needed a place to stay. When the five generation picture wastaken Dad wanted granny Dorcas to come up and get it taken because hedidn't know how much longer she had. He was right, she passed in1964. It was taken in November 1963. I still miss my father to thisday but have managed to go on with life suceeding where he never did.I know he would love his grand daughter Cassandra because she's fiestyand he liked that. Maybe that's why he fell in love with mom. Passedat 33 years, 9 months
